2.1 When a person falls I'll he needs the services of a doctor to examine him, him, diagnose his illness and prescribe appropriate medicines. For this purpose there are two option for the patient. First option is that he gives a call to a doctor who visits his residence, examines him and prescribe necessary medicines. This is domiciliary visit by the doctor. However, with advancement of Medical services and development of specialities and superspecialities, the concept of a general practitioner or family physicians domciliar visit by medical professionals has almost ceased. Domiciliary visit is made by medical professionals in very exceptional cases when the patient is very serious or he/his family is very close to the doctor. The second option for the patient ( Which is most common) is that the goes to a doctor. The place/premises where the doctor examines his patients is the DOCTOR'S CLINIC.
Depending on the space available in the doctor's clinic, the floor area allocated for different parts of the clinic may vary, but the following are essential portion of a doctor's clinic

2.2 THE DOCTOR'S CHAMBER
This is the room in which the doctor sits and examines his patients. The place should be adequaely lighted and ventilated to produce a safe working environment.
The following furnitures and equipment are must in a doctor's chamber.
A. Furnitures:
1. THE DOCTOR'S TABE : Conventional size office tables are usually used by the doctors
in their chamber. However of the space available is big enough larger size tables are kept
Prescription pad penstand. Paper weight are essential Stationaries on the doctor's table
2. CHAIR:
(a). THE DOCTOR'S CHAIR: This should be comfortable preferable with heigh back and easily movable because the doctor sits in this chair for long hours and frequently gets up to examine the patient.
(b) CHAIR FOR THE PATIENT AND ATTENDANT : There should be atleast two chairs placed on the side opposite to the doctor one chair is meant for the patient and the other for the attendant. An additional chair may be kept in the room. Which may be used in case more than one attendant enter the chamber with the patient. Lt is the duty of the basic medical assistant to ensure that not more than two attendants enter the doctor. S chamber with the patient
3. A STOOL, Preferably. revolving. is kept on one side of the doctor's chair . The patient is made to sit on this stool when the doctor examines the patient in sitting position. The revolving stool enables the doctor to examine him/her from front and back while sitting in his chair
4.EXAMINATION TABLE
This is the table on wich the patient is made to lie down for examination by the doctor . This table should be approximately 6 feet in length 2 feet in breadth and 3 feet in height . The height may vary depending upon the height of the doctor it is placed against one wall of the doctor's chamber. The table should be foam cushioned with rexin cover ' on the top of which a coloured bed sheet is placed. this should be coloured green or blue so that it does not get dirty immidiately . However this sheet should be changed daily or even on the same day if it gets soiled.
A small pillow with pillow cover of the same color as the sheet should be placed at the end of the the examination table to make the patient comfortable & relaxed.
Considering the height of the table, a movable wooden step should be provided near the table which the patient can use to climb on the table.
