This essential equipment in a doctor's chamber
(1). A STETHESCOPE :This should be kept on the doctor's table
(2). BLOOD PRESSURE INSTRUMENT: A blood pressure instrument is a must in a doctor's chamber. In some doctor's chamber the sphygmomanometer (the Blood pressure instrument) in mounted vertically on astand which is moved near the examination table to record the blood pressure of the patient.
(3).WEIGHING MACHINE: Weighing machine is placed near the examination table. The patient stands on the weighing machine before going on the examination table and the basic medical assistant records the weight.
(4). SCALE FOR MEASURING HEIGHT OF THE PATIENT: This scale is marked either on one of the walls of the chamber near the examination table, or it is a mounted scale on abase to make it stable.
(5). X' ray VIEW BOX: This is a device to see x' ray films on an illuminated background. There is a surface glass with two clips on the top to which the x' ray films is fixed. The surface glass should be free from dust. For illumination there is a light the above are the minimum requirements in a doctor's chamber. In addition some doctors also keep E. C. G machine in their chamber and also record E. C. G of the patient if required.
2.3 RECEPTION AND ASSISTANT'S WORKING PLACE:
In bigger clinics Reception and assistant's working place are separate. However they may be amalgamated together in smaller clinics. RECEPTION word comes from receive, and means the place where the patient first comes in contact with some one in the clinic. The person at the reception receives the patient and guides him further.
The assistant's working place is the place where the basic medical assistant sits and interacts with the patient. For this purpose there should be a table with one chair on one side for the basic medical assistant and one or two chair's on the other side for the patient and his attendant to sit and talk to the assistant. This table and chairs have to be placed out side the doctor's chamber preferably close to the entrance into the clinic. Necessary stationaries should be available on the table.
A telephone or extension of the phone in the clinic is provided at the reception and the assistant's table. Normally the main phone is placed at the reception/ the basic assistant's desi with extension in the doctor's chamber, so that if a caller wants to speak to the doctor, the call can be transferred to the doctor in his chamber.
2.4 PATIENT'S WAITING PLACE :
When a patient comes to consult a doctor, in his clinic, he is accompanied by one or more attendant. The doctor examines the patient one by one whereas the patient's comes to the clinic during the hour fixed by the doctor for examining patients. As a result a number of patients and their attendants assemble in a clinic at a time. Therefore, it is essential that a doctor's clinic should have a proper waiting place for the patient and their attendants. The size of the waiting place depends upon the size of the practice.
The waiting place should be well ventilated and lighted. There should be adequate number of chairs so that the patients and their attendants sit comfortably while waiting for their turn. Cleanliness and proper care by maintaining hyginic atmosphere is a must . There should be sufficient number of fans so that the patients to not sweat during summer season. In some clinic air cooler or even air conditioner are provided to make the patients and their attendants comfortable. This is dependant upon the next size of the pratice.
2.5 PATIENT'S BASIC AMENITIES :
Certain basic amenites for the patients have to be provided in the doctor's clinic.
# There should be provision of safe drinking water.
# There should be atleast two toilets, one for males and the other for females, as the patient have to wait for longer periods and they or their attendants may need them.
