1.INTRODUCTION:
The basic medical assistant the anchor Person in a doctor said clinic he is the first person with whom a patient comes in contact when he visits a doctor said clinic he is the person who is responsible for proper maintenance and working of the doctor said clinic he is the person who helps the doctor in the examination of the patient's lt is thus clear that the basic medical assistant must be well aquainted with his duties and responsibilities in the doctor s clinic in order to run the clinic smoothly and efficiently the duties and responsibilities have been enumerated in unit l They shall be described in this unit so that at the end of this unit the students should be well aquainted with what they have to do

2.proper maintenance and upkeep of the clinic
Cleanliness and maintenance of a proper hygienic condition in the doctor's clinic is a must. Though there may be other persons engaged for this work, but it is the duty of the basic medical assistant to ensure this.
The basic medical assistant must check the doctor's chamber before each session and ensure that all the furnitures and equipment are free from dirt and dust. The bed sheet on the patient, s examination table should be changed before each session. The basic medical assistant should see that the prescription pan stand and other stationaries are kept at their proper place. The surface glass of the x-ray view box should be free from dust. The basic medical assistant has to see that all electrical fitting are in proper working condition.
3.patient reception:
This is the place where the patients are first received but not one where they are required to wait for long. For this purpose there is a separate waiting place.
# The place should be kept neat and clean
# All furnishing should be clean and in good condition
# Light level should be adequate for reading and writing
There are four key words in patient reception -promptly, pleasantly, properly and politely.
Patient should be welcomed promtly upon his arrival in the clinic with a warm and pleasant greeting. if you know the patient from before, greet him by name.
Give the patient an approximate idea as to how long he will have to wait.
The doctors usually have a policy of meeting sales representatives and other visitor for which they fix some definite time. Inform them with courtsey about it.
Never be rude to any one in the doctor's clinic.
4. Appointment control and sheduling patient visit:
Effective appointment control is vital for the smooth functioning if a clinic. With good appointment control.
Patients are seen in time and have not to wait unnecessarily.
The patient load is well balanced.
The doctor is able to make good use of his time in the clinic.
Appointment control and scheduling is most effective when one person is responsible for all appointment. The request for appointment may be on arrival at the clinic or may be on telephone.
There should be an appointment book for appointment control and scheduling. One page should be allocated for each day. The names of new patients band old patients should be entered separately. These enteries must be in the same order and sequence in which the request for appointment has been received. Ln scheduling the doctor, s preference should be kept in mind. Some doctors like to see one old patient after every new patient while some prefer to see new cases first and then meet the old patients. Depending upon the doctor, s choice the scheduling should be done and I patients informed accordingly. An approximate unit time may be fixed for each patient which will depend upon the doctor, s preference. A unit time may be 10 minutes or 15 minutes. With 10 minutes unit time the doctor car dispose off 6 patients in an hour whereas with 15 minutes unit time it will be four patients per hour.
Emergency patients . An acute emergency is one in which the patient requires limmediate examination by the doctor such as acute abdominal pain such patients should be seen by the doctor as quickly as possible. Such a cute emergency case may delay the examination of the regularly scheduled patients. If this happens the situation should be able explained to the waiting patients.
