INTRODUCTION 

                  The doctors after examining a patient write a prescription. 

  A prescription has two components. The first components is a written order if the pharmacist of the druggist to provide certain medicines to the patient. The second component is is instructions to the patient as to how, how many times and for what period the prescribed medicines have to be administered or taken. A prescription can be written only by a professional who is legally authorised to prescribe medicines. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD A BASIC MEDICAL ASSISTANT PRESCRBE MEDICATION. 

    GENERIC NAMESAND BRAND NAMES OF DRUGS;      A non branded drugs sold by its category label is known as a generic product or drug. Any business firm may use this name. 

Brand names are those names of drugs that are controlled by particular business firms and they are registered trade marks.

for example chloramphenicol is a generic name whereas chloromycetin and paraxin are its brand names.

 

Drugs by generic names are cheaper than the branded products.

 #ADVERGE DRUG REACTION ;  certain drugs have adverse drug reaction or side effect. that result from administration of the normal dose of the drug. for example diarrhoea is a frequent side effect of Amoxycilline.



 


DRUG INTERACTION ; It is a response resulting from simultaneous use of two or more drug. It may be potentiation also known as syngergism when the action of the drugs together is greater than the effect of either drug taken alone. Antagonist is the opposite of potentiation means that one drug is antagonist to the other hence when given together it may not have beneficial effect rather may have undesirable effect. 





            HYPERSENSITITIVY;   This is a condition  in which the patient exhibitis features of overdose of the drug, even when the drug is administered in normal therapeutic dose.


                                        IDIOSYNCRASY;   This is an unsuspected, abnormal responds to a drug. 

                                    OVERDOSE; It is an undesirable effect of a drug due to excessive amount of the drug present in the body. an overdose that causes poisioning is known as toxic dose. An overdose that causes death is known as the lethal dose.
